The Weekly Wrap

Here at Visceral Change, we are dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion as the basic groundwork for organizational restructuring. Through the programs we’ve developed such as the Core Five Components to Social Justice and the Sociosystemic Development Model, we strive to create a change in the world starting with ourselves. By having an understanding of the world around us, we can begin to work to become better allies and advocates.

What is the weekly wrap? We know that between social media, local, national, and global news that there is a lot being thrown at you at any given time. Let us relieve some of that stress and help you find some of the best, most informative stories out there in regards to all things cultural, social, and political.

On Tuesday, the long-awaited and heavily teased Savage X Fenty Vol. 2 Fashion Show made its debut on Amazon Prime Video. Like many of Rihanna’s and the brand’s loyal followers, I hit play first thing in the morning to make sure I fully ingested all the fierceness the show had to offer. Unlike last year’s runaway bonanza, this year's show was unlike any fashion show I’ve ever seen before.

Taking a nod straight from Beyonce, this fashion show was full of amazing dancers, musical performances, and cameos from some of the biggest names from Willow Smith, Lizzo, Bella Hadid, Big Sean, and more. While the show was originally praised for its inclusivity of performers and models of all shapes, sizes, and skim color, Rihanna later posted an apology to the Muslim community on Tuesday night.

Mark and Patricia McCloskey, who became a viral sensation after standing on their front lawn in St. Louis waving guns as protesters passed by their home, were indicted on Tuesday afternoon with charges of exhibiting guns at a protest and tampering with evidence. Claiming the feared for their safety, the couple will pleas not guilty to any felony offenses. It has also been previously been stated that Missouri Governor Mike Parson would pardon the McCloskey's if convicted.

While expected to go to trial on March 8, 2021, for murder and manslaughter charges for his role in the death of George Floyd, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was released on a $1 million dollar bond. He is the last of the four former officers involved, J. Alexander Keung, Thomas K. Lane, and Tou Thao, to be released. If convicted, Chauvin faces up to 40 years behind bars.

The last week has been a whirlwind of Covid-19 news surrounding the presidential election that’s only a few weeks away. From a disaster of a presidential debate, into Trump and many around him testing positive for the virus, to his hospital visit that ended after a few days, to a fly going viral on Vice President Pence's head. It’s been a very long week.

Today, it was officially announced that the second presidential debate has been canceled with a virtual debate being declined by Trump. Both candidates will most likely be heading to the web for their own versions of a town hall. With this cancelation, the final debate is currently set for October 29th in Nashville.

With that, everyone has a great week and I'll leave you with Stevie Nicks’s newest single!
